Constellations

2007

Each composition in this series combines photographs from nature, from New York City, and from the Hubble Space Telescope.

The compositions reverse the standard photographic approach in which the representational aspect of the imagery dominates the viewer's reaction. Here, the juxtaposition of different imagery forces us to attend to the color and form relationships in a much more direct and unavoidable way. These formal relationships in turn affect our representational interpretations, causing us to see similarities we might not otherwise - between a fly's leg, a coastline, a taxi cab, a woman, a galaxy, a rock - and to see conections between aspects of our world we might normally consider disparate.

Each composition is printed in a signed limited edition of 20. Some of the prints are on paper, some on canvas. All prints are archival, using acid-free paper and canvas, and archival inks.
