Overlaid with the images of people praying at the Buddhist temple, is a segment of a masterpiece of Chinese painting, entitled Travellers Amidst Streams and Mountains, by Fan Ku'an, painted during the Northern Sung dynasty, approximately 1060 A.D. In the section of the painting reproduced here, we see part of a waterfall running down a mountainside, and at the base of the mountain, a tiny group of travellers on a road.
