An image of a bodhisattva. In Buddhism and Hinduism, a bodhisattva in general is someone who has attained enlightenment. Frequently the term has a more specific meaning - someone who has attained enlightenment but, rather than leaving the cycle of rebirth, elects to be reborn and come back to this life in order to help others attain enlightenment.
